Classes Resume at McNeil, Boil Water Notice Remains in Place (Update)

Update: Classes resume today at McNeil High School in the Round Rock Independent School District. But students and staff won’t be able to use drinking fountains.

That’s because the area around the school remains under a boil water notice as Austin Water Utility is making repairs to a broken water main.

Classes at McNeil were canceled yesterday because water was shut off to the school. Water is now back up and running – but it’s not safe to drink.

All Austin Water customers in the area need to continue to boil water before drinking or cooking with it. STAAR exams scheduled at McNeil for Wednesday will take place tomorrow.

Original Story (April 3, 2013, 7:26 a.m.): The Round Rock Independent School District has canceled all classes today at McNeil High School. All other  schools will remain open as scheduled.

District officials decided to cancel classes at McNeil after learning that Austin Water Utility is disrupting water service to the school to repair a break in a 24-inch water main at 5401 Parmer Lane.

STAAR testing scheduled for McNeil today will be rescheduled for Friday.

Meanwhile, Austin Water has issued a boil water notice to customers between Legendary Drive and Sage Grouse Drive and along East McNeil Road. Austin Water recommends that customers bring tap water to a vigorous, rolling boil for two minutes before drinking it, cooking with it or making ice.

When lab tests are confirmed safe, Austin Water will lift the notice.
