CitySummit 2015: Pressures and Opportunities for the Wider Region as Austin Expands

The Austin Monitor, the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and KUT News present the second edition of CitySummit on Friday, Dec. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at UT Austin's Thompson Conference Center.

This year, we'll tackle pressures and opportunities that the region faces as the City of Austin continues its growth. We've planned for three panel discussions: The first will look at specific data and trends behind what looks like some level of push to the suburbs and compare that with anecdotal evidence we encountered in our reporting series about Manor. The second will feature three area elected officials, headlined by Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt. The third will look at three specific issue areas: transportation, health care, and the region's workforce.

The agenda for the day is as follows:

*9:30 a.m. Registration and coffee

*10 a.m. Data and trends and on-the-ground realities: Brian Kelsey of Civic Analytics, UT Associate Professor Elizabeth Mueller, KUT Radio's MoseBuchele. Moderated by the LBJ School's Sherri Greenberg.

*11:10 a.m. Issues and opportunities facing the region, as seen by local elected officials: Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt, Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell, and Manor Mayor Rita Jonse. Moderated by Austin Monitor publisher Mike Kanin.

*12:10-12:25 p.m. Grab a box lunch/LBJ students' study presentation

*12:30 p.m. Specific issues facing the region, a non-elected view: Capital Metro's Todd Hemingson, Travis County Central Health's Trish Young Brown, and Workforce Solutions of the Capital Area's Alan Miller. Moderated by Austin Monitor freelancer Tyler Whitson.
