The City of Austin will host an open house Wednesday, Feb. 23, to provide information and receive public input on the Rainey Street development plans.

The City of Austin is seeking public input on urban growth issues surrounding the Rainey Street development project.

Officials will hold an open house tomorrow night to provide information and get feedback from residents about pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and parking issues in the area. The meeting will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

The Rainey Street District, located near Lady Bird Lake and west of Interstate 35, is known for historic bungalow style single-family homes. The project, first proposed in 2005, would transform the neighborhood into a business district with high-rise condos, apartment buildings and bars by 2014. The city will also be taking public comments about Rainey Street via email at raineystreet@ci.austin.tx.us.
