A wildfire about an hour north of the Austin area has grown to 450 acres, but a Texas A&M Forest Service official says it might end up being even larger once final measurements can be made.
The fire is holding at 75 percent contained after firefighters started getting help from lighter winds.
And although nine homes were evacuated after the wind picked up earlier this week, Steven Carter of the Forest Service says that threat appears to be over.Rainey St. matter postponed until April 11
“As long as this holds its own and our lines hold, then I don’t think we’re going to have any issues,” Carter said. “The wind’s out of the south. Any push that it would make, it’s going to go in a direction that’s not towards homes.”
The fire started over the weekend with a campfire in a park near Belton Lake, just northeast of Fort Hood.
