Barton Springs Pool's Re-reopening

Barton Springs Pool is reopening Sunday after a few days of clean-up.

The pool had to be closed on Tuesday because of Barton Creek run-off from this week’s rain storm.

The pool had reopened just last weekend after being closed since December for repair and renovation work.

The work was mainly on a culvert intended to divert flood water flowing along Barton Creek, allowing the pool to stay open after most “small storms.” But the Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s Victor Ovalle points out that it wasn’t a small storm that we had this week.

“Last Monday, where we had five inches in some areas, then the water that comes into the creek just runs over the dam on the south side and floods the pool,” Ovalle said.

City crews have almost finished cleaning the flood debris from this week’s otherwise welcome rain.

Barton Springs Pool reopens Sunday at 5 a.m.
