Austin and Travis County Partner for National Public Health Week (Update)

Update: The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department is holding a meeting this afternoon to present and outline key goals and objectives of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).  The action-oriented plan is designed to improve the health of Austin and Travis County residents. It will highlight community health issues like obesity and access to primary care.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. at City Hall.

Original Post: The City of Austin is promoting health initiatives during National Public Health Week to improve its citizens' health.

Today, health screenings will be hosted at St. John's Community Center. Free blood pressure screenings will be provided with no appointment necessary. Also this week, the city will present its key goals going forward with its the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

CHIP is a plan that outlines and prioritizes community health issues, proposing health improvements to Austinites and Travis County residents.

The plan was developed over last year, when Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services partnered with Veteran’s Services, Central Health, the St. David’s Foundation, Seton Healthcare Family, Capital Metro and numerous others.

National Public Health Week goes from April 1 until April 7.
