We’re halfway through the 2013 legislative session. And with only one bill making it to the governor’s desk so far, there’s plenty of work ahead. To look into future at what the final two months of the session may hold, Agenda Texas talked with Evan Smith, the CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Tribune.
So far it feels a lot calmer than the last session. There's less of a crisis mentality driving both the conversation and the activity. The speaker said at the beginning of the year this was going to be a session about water and transportation and public education, healthcare, the big issues that affect Texas, without really the distractions that had taken over, dominated previous sessions.
It was also at this point in the 2011 session that rumors started to swirl about Governor Rick Perry running for President. Now the question is will he run for anything?
I have believed for a some time that he's not running for Governor again. I do think he's gonna run for President. I think he would like another swing at the ball. He pretty much whiffed the last time despite having, on paper, the makings of a pretty good argument for why he should be President. He just muffed it.
