After the Explosion: West Remembers and 'Rises Up'

A memorial service is scheduled today in West for two brothers killed in the fertilizer plant explosion. Douglas and Robert Snokhous were both captains with the West Volunteer Fire Department.

A total of 12 emergency responders died in the blast. Services for some of the others killed are planned for later this week.

The Texas Workforce Commission is reaching out to people in West who have been without jobs since the explosion. The commission is helping them apply for unemployment. It’s also hosting a job fair in the town today.

The West Independent School District Board is holding a special-called meeting this evening. It comes about a week and a half after an explosion at a fertilizer plant there devastated the town.

Some students have been going to class at a building in a neighboring school district after their school was damaged. There are no classes today because of a previously-scheduled holiday.

People on Twitter are using #riseupwest and #riseupwestisd to draw attention to the community's strength and efforts to rebuild.
