Ian Crawford joined KUT as News Editor in 2008, after spending over four years as a reporter/anchor at KLBJ Radio in Austin.  He began his broadcasting career while still in high school in Southern Oregon.  During high school and college at the University of Oregon, he worked at times as a reporter, news anchor, sports play-by-play reporter, music host and commercial producer before moving to Texas in 2003.

Today Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) withdrew his pledge for Straus. In a statement he said he made his decission after receiving a phone call from an unnamed lawmaker he says is on Straus's leadership team.

Updated: APD Officer Kills Man in North Austin

Austin police are investigating the shooting deaths of two people in North Austin. One of the people was shot by an officer.

Updated 5:15 pm:  An Austin police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old man this morning. Police say the man killed had already taken one person's life and was aiming an assault rifle at police. 

A suspect opened fire on police from a house at 5:17 a.m. this morning. The officers were responding to reports of a medical emergency on the 12300 block of Tomanet Trail in Northwest Austin.

Austin Jobless Rate Dips in September

The Central Texas unemployment rate dipped a little in September, falling to 6.8%.  

The Texas Workforce Commission says the government, education and health services sector added the most jobs in the Austin area last month.  But unemployment is still a subject of deep concern for the Austin metro area.
