The state is ordering the school closed under an academic accountability law. The Austin school district wants to open two smaller high schools in the old Johnston facility. The closure of the school is prompting some state legislators to rethink how student achievement is measured.

Trammell Crow may Redevelop Green Water Site

Staff has recommended Trammell Crow over four other bidders. Its proposal includes condos, affordable housing, a senior assisted living facility, and open space. Trammel Crow says the project would generate $7 million each year in tax revenue. City Council is scheduled to make a final decision June 18th.
El Paso Soldier Passes Away

Green was killed June 2nd in Tikrit in what officials call a "non-combat incident." The 26-year-old from El Paso joined the Army in 2003. This was his first assignment to Iraq. A memorial service is scheduled for June 13th in Jacksonville, Florida. The Defense Department confirms that as of June 5th 4,079 U.S. military personnel have been killed since the war in Iraq began in March 2003. 386 were from Texas.
