Memorial Day Closures

Most city, county, state and federal offices and banks will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. All Austin Public Libraries will be closed May 24-26. Recreation Centers and Senior Activies Centers in Austin will be open for reduced hours on Memorial Day. There will be trash collection on May 27 in Austin and for ISEI customers in Pflugerville. Several areas swimming pools will be open for the long weekend. In Austin, Barton Springs Pool will remain open, along with Deep Eddy, Northwest and Walnut Creek Municipal Pools and the neighborhood pools at Balcones, Dick Nichols and Stacy. Cedar Park will hold the grand opening of its new Veterans Memorial Pool on New Hope Drive on May 26. The pool will be open to swimmers on May 24 & 25.
Johnston Gets Interim Principal

Dr. David Kernwein will head the school until August 31st. He has 27 years of administrative experience with the district. Kernwein temporarily takes over for Celina Estrada-Thomas. She announced her resignation earlier this week. Estrada-Thomas is taking a job as principal of Bastrop High School. Johnston faces possible closure for low standardized test scores over the past four years.
