From Guadalupe to Comal, the University of Texas at Austin got hammered by overnight storms. Disch Falk field lost a fence and an awning, trees litter the parking lot. Reports of damage were still coming in Thursday afternoon. But spokesperson Rhonda Wheldon says hundreds of windows were broken, many trees lost limbs. The University arborist thinks as many as 30 trees could be lost for good.

Hail and High Winds Blow Through Austin

Austin Energy reports about 19,000 customers are without power this morning. The most affected area is in Central Austin east and west of Mopac from the Rollingwood area to Barton Springs at South Lamar. Storms even knocked out power at some AISD schools forcing the district to cancel classes at four different campuses. Closed schools are Lee, Mathews, and Pease Elementary schools and the district's Alternative Learning Center. Govalle and Norman Elementary will open late at 10 a.m. Austin Energy and Austin Police caution drivers this morning to be aware of debris on roadways. If you encounter trees or branches blocking traffic call the city's non-emergency line at 3-1-1. To report a power outage call Austin Energy 322-9100.
