On October 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., KUT will broadcast “Hidden Kitchens Texas.” Hosted by Willie Nelson, Hidden Kitchens of Texas relates stories of the Texas experience through food, told by people who find it, grow it, cook it, sell it, celebrate with it, and write about it. Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Dallas born actress, Robin Wright Penn along with some of the most wild and extraordinary tellers takes us across Texas and share their own hidden kitchen stories in an hour of radio stories that come alive with a deep sense of time and place.

Hidden Kitchens Texas is full of first person stories, interviews, archival audio, voice mail messages, field recordings, oral histories, offbeat sounds and home recordings, all laced with a wide array of deep soulful Texas music.

The Kitchen Sisters began their radio lives producing a weekly live radio program in the late 70's on KUSP-FM in Santa Cruz, California. Their radio documentaries have been featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition, the BBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Radio Smithsonian, California Public Radio, Pacifica Radio, Soundprint, and others. Other noted Kitchen Sisters stories include: Waiting for Joe DiMaggio, The Nights of Edith Piaf, Carmen Miranda: The Life and Times of the Brazilian Bombshell, 1000 Beautiful Watts, Guillermo Cabrera Infante: Memories of an Invented City, Tupperware, The Road Ranger, and War and Separation.
