About the Show

A Texas Music hall of famer and musician for more than 40 years, Paul Ray has spent half of them as host of KUT’s Saturday night rhythm and blues rumble Twine Time. Featuring the soundtrack of your life (or the life of someone close to you) – Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Ray plays every R&B hit and miss from World War II to Watergate.

About Our Host

Paul Ray
In Austin since: 1970 (UT from 1960-'63)

Favorite thing(s) about Austin: George Arredondo's enchiladas and the Blues.

If I had more time, I would...: Answer this question.

Work/on-air history:
In late 1978, I joined Bill Bentley's "Twine Time," after leaving Paul Ray & The Cobras Band, and I began Jazz programming in the 1980s.

How I choose the music I play during my show:
Blues, Vintage R&B, Early R&R, Motown, Soul, and Jazz are authentic American inventions and have always been a huge part of radio's existence. I try to keep it that way.

What I do when I'm not on air: I work on the next show.

A few of my key artists: I have no car radio, nor MP3.

I'm telling all my friends about: James Hunter, People Gonna Talk

Top 5 favorite or influential records: Jimmy Reed, Ray Charles, Howlin' Wolf 45. 78 RPM singles from before there was a KUT-FM
