KUT Staff Picks Top 10 Albums for 2011
It’s time once again for our music-obsessed air staff to lay their ten favorite CDs of the year on you.
Lists serve their purpose, but they are also inherently silly exercises. Favorites? Now? Three months ago? How many? 10? 12? 100? From when, and why?
For our purposes, we chose ten (we like the alliteration) and ‘limited’ the choices to albums of new material with a 2011 release date. Of course, there’s a huge amount of subjectivity here – at any given moment our hosts could easily list an alternate ten favorites – and some teeth gnashing over what wouldn’t fit.
Plus, there’s a bit of a lean away from more obvious choices in favor of gems that may not have received the recognition they deserved.
There’s slightly less commonality in our staff picks this year. Whether that’s indicative of less standout releases in 2011 or a year with more delights than ever before, that’s up to you to decide. There’s a treasure trove of great music here. Pick any of these lists and dig in. You can’t go wrong.
