ORNETTE COLEMAN RECEIVES TEXAS MEDAL OF ARTS AWARD FOR MUSIC

77 year old Ornette Coleman is still making ground-breaking jazz music – and he was honored on Tuesday night with the Texas Medal of Arts.

The Texas Medal of Arts awards ceremony took place last night at the Paramount Theatre. The class of 12 honorees included legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite, actor Sissy Spacek and free-jazz master Ornette Coleman. From KUT’s Texas Music Matters, Andy Uhler reports though Coleman’s name may not be as widely recognized as Cronkite or Spacek, his legacy in the music world is undeniable.
