Despite the cancer, former Governor Ann Richards was active until the end. She gave her heart and soul to the future Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.

Former Democratic Texas Governor Ann Richards died from cancer last night. But her efforts to empower disadvantaged people will live on with the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. The school will open its doors next fall to girls that mostly come from families with low incomes. KUT’s Joy Diaz reports in preparation for the opening, Governor Richards was deeply involved.
