we are visited by six monks of the gaden shartse monastery, originally in tibet, now in exile in india. these wonderful monks travel the globe spreading the seeds of tibetan buddhism and raising funds for their existence. there are many events scheduled for their austin stay. after opening statements by sally jacques, the monks gave a lengthy chant which those of you interested in a vocal meditation won’t want to miss. after discussions of their life and stay in austin, one of the monks, who must remain anonymous for the safety of his family in tibet, tells the story of his torture at the hands of the communist chinese and his escape from tibet. it’s a long story told in tibetan with another monk translating. i thought of editing it, but the monk was so glad to get to tell his story i had to include it all.
