there’s a new play that’s getting an amazing amount of attention today: john patrick shanley’s “doubt, a parable.” there’s a new movie of it directed by the author and starring meryl streep and philip seymour hoffman. zach scott has a production which we in the austin area will have to see. it’s directed by playwright and new u.t. drama faculty member, steven dietz, and stars two of my favorite actors, janelle buchanan as sister aloysius beauvier, and jamie goodwin as father brendan flynn. both are wonderful comic actors, and i understand the beginning of the play is quite hilarious. good thing because it gets deadly serious. they do a dialogue from one of their confrontations in this feature. the discussion features dave steakley, managing artistic director of zach theatre, c. denby swanson, the dramaturg, and sydney andrews who plays sister james.
