there’s a long tradition of the celebration of art in austin. remember elizabeth ney lived and sculpted here in the 1880’s! what was “fiesta” has evolved into a much larger event put on by art alliance austin. it’s called “art city austin.” i spoke to meredith powell, executive director of art alliance austin, louise harpman, architect, goil amornvivat from TLC’s trading spaces, ian cion, artist, and hank waddell, sculptor. all are involved in the event which is taking place this week. entertainment was provided by the excellent band, “opposite day.”
Art City Austin 08 / April 12-13, 2008 – Each April, hundreds juried independent and emerging artists descend on the hub of innovation, expression, and individuality that is Austin, Texas. 20,000+ art enthusiasts from the region and nation are expected at Art City Austin 08 (formerly the Austin Fine Arts Festival).
