LIVE FRIDAYS FROM XPN: JOE JACKSON

Click the image to see a larger version.

Every Friday at 11:00 a.m., NPR and WXPN in Philadelphia broadcast a live performance. On April 4, 2008, it was Joe Jackson.

British singer-songwriter Joe Jackson is popular for his innovative work over the past 30 years. At a young age, he played both the violin and piano, and by 16 years old he was playing in various bars in England. In the 1970’s, he joined a British-based trio that challenged the current punk scene with power-pop new wave. A pivotal moment in his career was his signing to A&M Records in 1978, under which he released a myriad of popular hits. Though the five time Grammy nominee decided to move back in the direction of classical composition in the late 1990ís, he has recently released another pop oriented album. Rain, which was released at the end of January, is a masterfully humorous, sophisticated and original album.
