Blanco Middle School science teacher Kirk Beckendorf drives out onto the McMurdo Ice Shelf in Antarctica and steps out onto the snow to see… a rugby match in progress?! Not a common sight in that part of the world. The match was between The New Zealanders of Scott Base V. the United States McMurdo team. He’s admittedly not a big sports fan, but Beckendorf tells us about stumbling upon sports entertainment while doing polar research in Antarctica.
