The English Beat rose out of the late 70’s Birmingham, England scene as one of the first and most important ska revivalist groups. Guitarist Andy Cox and bassist Dave Steel went on to form Fine Young Cannibals while vocalist/guitarist Dave Wakeling started General Public, and the band never quite reached the chart/commercial success of their first singles and the 1980 debut I Just Can’t Stop It, but their solid, rock-steady ska credentials remain unabashed. Listen The English Beat perform live on Left of the Dial with host Jeff McCord.
