On Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., The Best of Public Radio presented “Hidden Kitchens Texas.”
The Kitchen Sisters have teamed up with KUT to feature the funkier tastes of the Lone Star State. Narrated by country music legend Willie Nelson, Hidden Kitchens Texas presents wild and moving tales of lesser-known Texan culinary gems, including the birth of the Frito, the origin of the frozen margarita, a car wash kitchen in El Paso, the tamale lady at Fuel City in Dallas, and a restaurant hidden down a driveway in Fort Worth. The Hidden Kitchens stories unfold against a soundtrack of soulful Texas music that conveys a deep sense of time and place. Along with Nelson, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Dallas-born actress Robin Wright Penn, and others share stories. To preview the program, click here.
