Immortalizing the Ghost

On March 30th, when officials at the Long Center for the Performing Arts formally dedicate the Austin Music Memorial, the names of ten people will be immortalized for helping put Austin on the nation's musical map. Many Austinites won't recognize the name of inductee Roosevelt Williams. But his other name may ring a few bells.
For KUT's Texas Music Matters, David Brown reports that the man who used to be known as "the Grey Ghost" is finally getting his due.

For KUT's Texas Music Matters, David Brown looks back and talks with some people who were close to the legendary singer.

Grounded in Music

Concerns about the state of music education inspired the creation of "Grounded in Music": an initiative aimed at getting underprivileged kids to think about how music might change their lives. The early results are more than encouraging, they're inspiring. For Texas Music Matters, David Brown reports that other cities, including Philadelphia, are thinking about opening their own chapters of the "Grounded in Music" program.
