After a long and contentious meeting, the Austin ISD school board put off a major decision on whether to partner with a charter school. Dozens of people showed up to last night’s school board meeting. They came with handmade signs and t-shirts. And they were there to put the pressure on school board members to reject the in-district charter school proposal. Ken Zarifis with the teachers association Education Austin was chanting along with them. “The biggest issue we have really right now is that they did just not take time to vet this with the community. This is a community issue and they need to respect the community better to build trust,” Zarifis said.
