Public Hearing on Proposed Electricity Rate Increases
A public hearing Thursday night is sure to draw a crowd of residential and business customers of Austin Energy. The city-owned utility announced proposed rate increases last month. As KUT’s Erika Aguilar reports on today's Newspod, some customers fear the burden will be hardest on those already struggling to pay the bills.

City Commission to Review Proposed Bags Ban
The City of Austin’s Solid Waste Advisory Commission is scheduled to take up the city’s proposed plastic bags ban Wednesday night. The draft ban, as it's currently written, would ban single-use plastic and paper bags starting in January 2013. And from June to December this year businesses would have to charge ten cents a bag.
The Solid Waste Advisory Commission meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The Austin City Council would still have to vote on the ban before it could take effect.
