Some research online, coming across local show announcements, clicking on a few links that you find intriguing, and bam. Make the first contact.
In this case, there was a bit of confusion at first, on the part of Under the Sun's vocalist and guitarist Erik Buerklee when I inquired about his band's music. Not everybody's heard of the Austin Music Minute. When I chatted with Buerklee on the phone recently, one of the first things he asked was, "So...are you local?"
