Geoff Union exists on the outer edge of bluegrass music, for more than a few reasons. First of all, and perhaps the easiest, is his location - Austin isn't traditionally known as a bluegrass hotspot. Also, his songwriting themes are a bit darker than most bluegrass song subjects. On top of all that, Union pushes the envelope on rhythm, playing a hard and fast brand of bluegrass that is entirely his own. Geoff Union takes it on himself to push the genre to its limits, often turning it into something else entirely. Just this month, Geoff Union released an 8-song recording, Cold As Steel.
