Geoff Union exists on the outer edge of bluegrass music, for more than a few reasons. First of all, and perhaps the easiest, is his location - Austin isn't traditionally known as a bluegrass hotspot. Also, his songwriting themes are a bit darker than most bluegrass song subjects. On top of all that, Union pushes the envelope on rhythm, playing a hard and fast brand of bluegrass that is entirely his own.
