Folk rocker Michael McDermott has come a long way, both in his career and in his life. McDermott has gone from addiction to philanthropy, from his first album (620 West Surf) to his latest (Hit Me Back). The new album reflects these massive changes throughout the course of his life, and preaches optimism through and through. McDermott is a musician with direct inspirations from the likes of Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, but with his own distinct take on the folk rock genre. It's easy to see why: Lofton's skill is astounding, he's a jazz musician, and he plays the trumpet. Miles Davis is the touchstone for all of the above.
