Local band
Belaire started out as a quartet back in 2004, when sisters
Cari Palazzolo and
Christa Palazzolo teamed up with
Matt Simon and
Jason Chronis of
Voxtrot and released a self-titled, totally D.I.Y. EP in 2005. Their first full-length,
Exploding, Impacting, followed in 2007. Fans were beside themselves with Belaire's dream pop sound. The band was featured on filmmaker
Nathan Christ's critically-acclaimed 2010 Austin music scene documentary
Echotone.

I'm looking forward to hearing the forthcoming full-length release by Austin-based quintet Whalers. They'd been working on the new stuff throughout the summer, although they managed to squeeze in an EP release show last July to share a couple of new tracks, "Bon Vivant" and "Pennywhistle Park Place" (my fave, used in this edition of the Austin Music Minute.)
