Michael Crockett graciously instructed me on the correct pronunciation of today's featured artist, Brazilian band
Os Mutantes...which I did not pronounce the way it should be pronounced (which is more like
Ooos Mutahnchees). But there's one thing I do get: This incredible group has taken psychedelic rock to places you'd never even imagine it could go.
The band was formed in 1966 in Sao Paulo by brothers
Arnaldo Baptista and
Sergio Dias Baptista, and vocalist
Rita Lee. While they were fans of English-speaking music artists like
Jimi Hendrix and
The Beatles, they also felt a close connection to the traditional styles they grew up with, like
