It's been one adventurous journey for
The Couch since they formed in 2007. Back in the day, it was mostly about playing house parties in San Marcos, but that definitely got the ball rolling. Frontman and songwriter
Taylor Wilkins soon made the move to Austin, where he, drummer
Jud Johnson (
Frank Smith) and bassist
Kyle Robarge (
The Calm Blue Sea, Frank Smith) made three EPs and worked diligently to redefine their musical direction. Last year, the band released its first full-length,

It's difficult to accurately write about one's impression of the live experience of My Education, but I'll attempt to do so by sharing my experience of their music at Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar. Laurie Gallardo - do my best to avoid using the description "singer-songwriter" when talking about solo artists. Some local musicians don't mind it; others, not so much (some absolutely cringe and...

It's not uncommon to experience some tremendous musical jams at parties, especially here in Austin. People pick up whatever instrument is handy and start to play. Some of those connections made are golden and lead to great bands. Case in point: Guitarist

Tiger Darrow was a recent John Lennon Songwriting Award finalist for a tune she penned called "Sunshine Song." It's a rather impressive mark to make, considering that she just graduated from the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts this year.

I will humbly admit to you that I, your friendly neighborhood Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, couldn't two-step to save my life, but I do have this profound appreciation for old school country. Call me stubborn or old-fashioned, but tend to ditch the new stuff of the CMT variety (with a...

Now usually, when I, your

This week, we...

Yellow Fever became a band around 2006, but even before they officially released some music the following year, they'd already earned a loyal fan base.
Then, of course, the band doesn't play that often. The anticipation for new Yellow Fever music is amped up because the time between new music...
