Live performances are where it’s at for high-energy local eight-piece blasters
The Bus Stop Stallions. As you can imagine, it’s a big band making one big show.
Their recent full-length release
Crosswinds will give you an idea of what they like to unleash onstage, mixing up a lot of rock and funk with jazz and soul. Have horn section, will travel. Very reminiscent of the funk/soul outfits from the ‘70s and ‘80s, a la
Earth, Wind & Fire. Just toss in a little
Stevie Wonder for good measure.
This is one to not miss. Check out The Bus Stop Stallions at their show tonight at
Frank, 407 Colorado. Sharing the bill are
Fatback Circus and
The T Jarrod...

I'm not fond of assembling top ten lists - of anything, really. But it must be duly noted: The Sword's Apocryphon made it onto not only my list, but also on the list of Texas Music Matters grand poobah, David Brown. Proud to say we dig it loud.
There have been a number of raves for the Austin quartet's latest album. Tales of doom and destruction reign supreme on this apocalyptic journey, most fitting for the atmosphere feeding some people's fascination with the Mayans' calendar computations. Apocryphon is is absolute metal rock in one of its purer forms – just check out the riffs, the volume, the vocals and the elaborate tales from the netherworld.

Late last year marked the release of When the Moment Is True, an incredible album by songwriter Seth Sherman. Over a span of two years, as he performed with other bands in Austin and around Texas, and dealt with things in his personal life, Sherman worked on a number of solo songs, each a powerful...

Fans of former Austin band The Fall Collection were happy to see songwriter/guitarist Danny Dunlap's new musical project, Gentlemen Rogues, emerge onto the music scene in 2010. Last year, they released a self-titled three-track EP last year, and that alone has me hopeful for an eventual full-length...

I shall begin this entry with a brief rant, if I may be so bold. Assembling an annual top ten album list is never an easy thing for me to do. I
despise it. It's become increasingly difficult to look back over the past year and (unfairly) having to select albums that are, by whatever...
