Father John Misty is the musical alter ego of Joshua Tillman. Or, perhaps, 'alter' ego is the wrong way to put it: the Baltimore-born multi-instrumentalist says he'd long been looking for a way to project a solo musical voice that was both more spontaneous and truer to his own personality than the softer, mellower Pacific-Northwest based sound of his earlier career (see Fleet Foxes and Saxon Shore). Tillman's 2012 album "Fear Fun" is likely to wind up on many critics' best-of lists at year's end. KUT's David Brown spoke with Tillman backstage shortly before his Saturday afternoon set on the Austin Ventures stage at ACL Fest.
