Rain, Hail Over Central Texas on First Day of Spring

March 20, 2013 9:14 am by: Alexandria Mayo

The calendar now says spring!

Some much-needed rain fell over Central Texas last night and this morning. Rain totals could range from a tenth of an inch to one inch.

People in some areas even saw (and heard!) pea to quarter-sized hail.

But our chances of continued showers and thunderstorms are decreasing as the morning continues – from as much as 50 percent to just a slight chance.

Our next best chance for rain is later this week. Right now, there’s a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map shows all of Williamson County and much of Travis and Burnet Counties are in severe drought. Much of Hays County is doing even worse – in extreme drought.
