Austin Music Minute

Looking Forward, Inspired by the Past

The Blackwells really are a hidden treasure in this town. Originally from Asheville, NC, the quintet has mostly kept a low profile while playing gigs around town, but I’m excited to report they’ve been recording new music recently. This is a band to keep an eye on. There’s something extraordinary in their vibe that must be heard.

Maybe it’s something about the hybrid of folk and Americana that makes their music so striking, paired with a profound reverence for folk and roots influences from the past that inspire their songwriting. At the same time, they anticipate the future and newer audiences to share their music with. It’s the best of both worlds.

The Blackwells have a February residency going on at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 E. 6th. You can see them play there Tuesday night, along with Boy + Kite and Gorgeous Hands. The music starts at around 10 p.m.
