MapJam Brings the Austin Music Map to Life, Feb. 23

January 23, 2013 4:08 pm by: Erin Geisler

EVENT: MapJam, a daylong, moveable music festival, invites Austinites to experience the Austin Music Map live and in-person.

Nine bands — from bluegrass, to hip hop, to punk, to salsa — will perform in eight different locations, bringing the Austin Music Map to life and allowing attendees to sample some of Austin’s diverse music genres in a single day.

The Austin Music Map is a web-based, interactive, community documentary project that lets users “play” the city. The map goes beyond the usual suspects on the Austin music scene in search of the not-so-well-known places where music is being made. MapJam attendees are encouraged to contribute to the map by uploading their event photos and sounds to the map using the hashtag #AustinMusicMap on Flickr and SoundCloud.

This event is free and open to the public thanks to support from KUTX 98.9, The Austin Music Experience; and the City of Austin Music Division.
