Arts Eclectic: Building Hope
To say that Turk Pipkin’s non-profit Nobelity Project has done a lot in the past decade or so is an understatement. Since the inception of the project, they’ve built classrooms, schools, water systems, and more in Kenya and elsewhere; they’ve recently been planting trees in Bastrop State Park, and they’ve produced and released three documentary feature films taking on the big questions facing the world.
This month, they’re gearing up for their big annual gala while also releasing their latest book project.
The gala is the Artist and Filmmakers Dinner on February 10 at the Four Seasons, at which a who’s who of Texas musicians will honor Kris Kristofferson by playing their favorite songs of his with the man himself.
The book is Building Hope, an old-school, nicely-printed coffee table book by Turk which chronicles the building of the Mahiga Hope High School in Kenya. The book and tickets to the gala can be found at nobelity.org.
