Arts Eclectic: Frontera Fest 20
Over the past two decades, Austin’s Frontera Fest has emerged as the premiere fringe theater festival in the American southwest. For the next month or so, dozens of artists will take to the stages of Hyde Park and Salvage Vanguard theaters to try out new material or to showcase acts that wouldn’t have a home elsewhere. There will be a little of everything, as the fest usually features theater, dance, spoken word pieces, comedy, and plenty of unclassifiable acts.
The Short Fringe consists of five shorter (under 25 minute) pieces a night, with best-of-the-week shows on Saturday nights and a best-of-the-fest week of shows from February 12-16.
There’s also the Long Fringe, featuring longer pieces, and Mi Casa Es Su Teatro, in which local homes and other unusual locations become theaters for a day.
Frontera Fest is underway now and continues through February 16. For a full schedule of events, check out their website.
