During the holiday season, one doesn’t have to look far to find a version of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. There’s Ballet Austin’s yearly production, of course, along with a few other stage versions and plenty of filmed adaptations to choose from. But if you’re looking for a version of The Nutcracker that features juggling, dog tricks, and live sword swallowing, The Mutt-Cracker (Sweet!) might be the only game in town.
Darren Peterson’s new holiday tradition is in its second year at the Vortex, and tells the classic Nutcracker story in under an hour through 29 family-friendly circus-style acts. There’ll be unicycles, live music, juggling, sword swallowing, and of course, plenty of dog tricks.
