A new study says that going the extra mile when working from home as a telecommuter may not pay off.
The study, released this week by UT sociology professor Jennifer Glass, finds that putting in a little extra work from home just leads to working longer days without any perks like raises or promotions.
“We think that people have this sense that their overtime hours will be appreciated and noticed and they’ll get rewarded for them,” Glass said. “But the data don’t lie; for this group of workers, at least, we just didn’t see any indication that they were ever being rewarded for their overtime.”
Glass found that extra hours worked at the office don’t always pay off either, except in the case of hourly employees.
