In August, the University of Texas System Board of Regents approved KUT’s move to purchase radio station KXBT 98.9 in an effort to expand KUT’s public service, audience and community engagement. KUTX 98.9 will operate as a noncommercial public radio station broadcasting full-time music programming. KUT 90.5 will become a full-time news and information station.
About KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9
For more than 50 years, KUT 90.5, listener-supported public radio from Austin, Texas, has endeavored to be the most trusted radio source for music and news in Central Texas. A founding member of NPR, KUT established a news department in 2002. Since then, the news team has won more than 100 state, national and international awards for journalistic excellence. On Jan. 2, 2013, KUT will split its services between two signals: KUT 90.5 will become a full-time news and information service and KUTX 98.9 will become a noncommercial service broadcasting full-time music programming reflecting the Austin music experience.

Can’t tell you how delighted I am with the advent of KUTX! The guest DJ feature is a terrific idea. You should consider making this a regular feature given Austin’s wealth of musical talent.
