Matt Reilly Named KUTX 98.9 Program Director
AUSTIN, Texas—Dec. 19, 2012 – KUT Assistant Music Director Matt Reilly has been named program director for KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, which launches Wednesday, Jan. 2.
As program director, Reilly will oversee all aspects of programming on KUTX 98.9, including the overall sound of the station, branding and station promotions. He also will be responsible for community engagement and coordinating with the KUT development department on fund raising. He will serve as the afternoon drive time host from 3-6 p.m.
“Matt’s solid history in Austin’s music community combined with his major market public radio experience make him the ideal choice to lead the programming team at KUTX 98.9,” said Hawk Mendenhall, associate general manager and director of broadcast and content for KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9. “He has a strong vision for how KUTX can give listeners — in town and around the world — the Austin music experience.”
Reilly joined KUT 90.5 in 2008 as a music host, talent booker and assistant music director. Previously he worked at Philadelphia’s WXPN, home of NPR’s “World Café,” the Austin Music Network and Austin’s KGSR radio. He continues to host “Folk Alley” on WKSU- FM, Kent State University’s NPR affiliate.
In August, the University of Texas System Board of Regents approved KUT’s move to purchase radio station KXBT 98.9 in an effort to expand KUT’s public service, audience and community engagement. KUTX 98.9, will operate as a noncommercial public radio station broadcasting full-time music programming. KUT 90.5 will become a full-time news and information station.
