AUSTIN, Texas – Dec. 11, 2012 – KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, has unveiled the program schedule featuring the music and hosts listeners have enjoyed on KUT, as well as new music programming reflecting the Austin music experience. The schedule goes into effect at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2. Morning host Susan Castle will be the first voice listeners hear on KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience.

New music programs include: “Jazz with Jay Trachtenberg,” featuring jazz classics, as well as new releases; “What’s Next” with Jeff McCord, featuring an eclectic mix of new music and special previews from new and established artists; and a three-hour Sunday morning program hosted by Jody Denberg highlighting a free-form mix of music from off the beaten path.

KUTX 98.9 will feature three-minute NPR news breaks weekdays during morning and afternoon drive times and at the top of the noon hour.

“Eklektikos” with John Aielli, Paul Ray’s “Twine Time,” “Horizontes” with Michael Crockett, “Texas Music Matters,” “Left of the Dial” with Jeff McCord, “Folkways,” “Across the Water” with Ed Miller and “World Music” with Hayes McCauley, as well as Kevin Connor, Laurie Gallardo, Jay Trachtenberg and others will continue to broadcast in their current time slots on KUTX 98.9.

Matt Reilly will host afternoon drive time, from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3-7 p.m. Fridays. Jody Denberg will host early evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Until KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, launches on Jan. 2, KUT is broadcasting an un-hosted, Austin-centric holiday mix on 98.9. In addition to being available on the 98.9 frequency, listeners can listen to the holiday mix on digital KUT2 and by streaming it online beginning at noon today. Content on digital KUT2 will change over to KUTX 98.9 the Austin music experience on Jan. 2.

Many of the news and information programs currently heard on digital KUT2, including “Talk of the Nation” and “BBC World Have Your Say,” will move to KUT 90.5 on Jan. 2. The complete KUT 90.5 all-news schedule was announced in October.

“The KUTX music team has been working hard to launch KUTX 98.9 with some of the most inspiring, accessible – and uniquely Austin – music programming around,” said Reilly, who is spearheading the launch. “Listeners will be able to turn to KUTX 98.9 to hear emerging talent, experience live music and engage with the community.”

KUTX 98.9, will operate as a noncommercial public radio station broadcasting full-time music programming. KUT 90.5 will become a full-time news and information station.

Please reconsider having the same DJ (Laurie) M-TH evenings. I have no issue w/the music she plays, but she is too wordy. And I am a member. Membership is under my husband’s name, John Warren.

Thanks so much for the feedback regarding Laurie’s show. We’re glad to hear that you enjoy the music! Part of Laurie’s style is sharing her in-depth knowledge of music. With that being said, we continually listen and monitor our deejays to ensure they are providing the best sound possible. We appreciate all feedback!
