When will KUTX 98.9 launch?
KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, will launch at 5:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

What music programs will you air on KUTX 98.9?
KUTX 98.9 will feature the music and hosts you’ve enjoyed on KUT 90.5, as well as new music programming reflecting the Austin music experience. Please take a look at our program schedule.

Will KUTX 98.9 air NPR newsbreaks at the top of the hour, similar to KUT 90.5?
Yes. KUTX 98.9 will air three-minute NPR newsbreaks at 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 8 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays. During the weekend you’ll hear NPR newsbreaks at 7 a.m., noon and 5 p.m.

Right now you can sign up for our weekly KUTX 98.9 e-mail by visiting kutx.org. Our site will expand to include music features, news and profiles on Jan. 2, 2013. You can also stream KUTX 98.9 through our online player.

 

Where can I find “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me,” “Car Talk” and other public radio entertainment programs?
You can find news, information and public radio variety shows on our sister station KUT 90.5. The KUT 90.5 schedule is available online.

Are there any programs that can be heard on both KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9?
“Texas Music Matters,” our local music journalism program, the Austin Music Minute, NPR newsbreaks and PRX’s “Sound Opinions,” the world’s only rock and roll talk show, can be heard on both KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9.

If I’m a member of KUT 90.5, does that mean I’m a member of KUTX 98.9?
KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9 will conduct membership drives simultaneously. Members who donate to either service may select one of four thank you gifts available to anyone who supports public radio.

While we do track every donation to the service for which it’s earmarked, all money goes into the same budget.

What are the benefits of KUTX membership?
We’re working out the details and hope to announce KUTX membership benefits during our first membership drive, which starts the first week of April.

How can I submit my band’s CD to KUTX?
We play a diverse range of artists on KUTX. While we do accept unsolicited CDs we do not play singles or unreleased demo recordings. Your CD should be available commercially ­that is, either downloadable or for sale on the internet and/or in stores.

Physical CDs are preferred. If you want to send us music electronically, please send us a link to a WAV file of your recordings so we can preview and download them. You may email your download links to music@kutx.org. Unsolicited email music file attachments will not be accepted.

How can I book my band to perform live on KUTX 98.9?
KUTX 98.9 will showcase live music throughout the week in Studio 1A. E-mail our music booker, Peter Babb.

How can I get KUTX to promote my upcoming live show?
Submit your music on KUT.org’s events calendar, which our staff checks regularly.

What is the music format on KUTX 98.9?
The music team at KUTX 98.9 strives to curate a mix of recorded music, live, one-of-a-kind performances, music information and artists stories defining the Austin music experience. So when you listen to KUTX you’ll hear fresh, cutting-edge music, alongside iconic songs and established artists who continue to inspire.
