HIV Infections Rising in Central Texas

December 19, 2012 5:37 pm by: Joy Diaz

HIV infections are on the rise in Central Texas, according to the federally-funded Austin Area Comprehensive HIV Planning Council.

Council member Victor Martinez says many young people, especially, don’t understand the threat.

“Lack of education,” Martinez said. “They don’t see HIV as a problem, so, they don’t practice safe sex.”

The council’s reports show that more than 4,000 central Texans are living with HIV or AIDS.
