The Capital Area Food Bank is teaming with Cap Metro and Whole Foods for a food drive called Stuff the Bus. The goal is to literally fill a bus outside Whole Foods with about 20,000 pounds of donations.
John Turner with the food bank says that little by little the warehouse is filling up with all sorts of canned goods. At the moment, it’s only about two-thirds full. Turner encourages people to consider the option of just donating cash, as impersonal as it may seem.
“We can turn every dollar into $5 worth of food,” Turner said. “So if it’s easier to donate that way, then it’s easy to do that at austinfoodbank.org, which is our website. Or if they’d like just to donate food there’s lots of food drives going on right now all over town. Stuff the Bus is probably one of the bigger, more prominent ones.”
Items in high demand are healthy non-perishables.
