Driver’s License Center Working Well

December 13, 2012 6:04 pm by: Ben Philpott

The Texas Department of Public Safety opened two new driver’s license mega-centers in the Houston area today. Central Texas was site of the first mega-center, a 24,000-square-foot center in Pflugerville that can handle more than 700 residents a day.

DPS spokeman Tom Vinger says that since the center opened in October, more and more people have been using it.

“Generally speaking, people are in and out in 10 minutes or less,” Vinger said. “We’re hoping that as people throughout Austin hear about this that they’ll come to the Pflugerville mega-center instead of going to a different driver’s license office. Because we certainly have the capacity to handle more customers”

The DPS will open three more driver’s license centers by the end of January. The department is also testing some new technology at its traditional facilities in hopes of speeding up services there.
