Child Flu Cases at Dell Hospital

December 19, 2012 12:03 pm by: Nathan Bernier

Dell Children’s Medical Center is seeing a lot more kids sick with the flu — hundreds of cases in the past couple of days.

Chief Medical Officer Pat Crocker says a third of the children with coming to the ER with fevers have tested positive for the flu.

“The thing that’s concerning about it is, the flu season typically doesn’t peak until mid-February,” Crocker said. “And whether we’re seeing what’s going to be a particularly severe and busy year with flu, or whether we’re just seeing flu earlier than other parts of the country are going to, it’s hard to know.”

The state’s latest flu surveillance report says the illness is widespread. Health experts say it’s still not too late to get a flu shot.
